Wasp nest removal in Cork: what it costs and how fast it works
A typical Cork wasp nest is treated in under 30 minutes for a fixed price. Here is what happens, what it costs, and why DIY sprays usually make it worse.
When wasps become a problem in Cork
Queens start nests in April and May, usually somewhere dry and undisturbed — a roof space, a soffit, a garden shed, a compost bin or a hole in an old stone wall. You rarely notice them then. By late July and August the same nest can hold thousands of workers, and that is when the calls start coming in from Douglas, Ballincollig, Midleton and everywhere in between.
The sign most people notice first is a steady line of wasps flying in and out of one exact spot on the building. That traffic line is the nest entrance, and it is all a technician needs to treat it.
What treatment actually involves
Treatment is an insecticidal dust or spray applied directly into the nest entrance. Returning workers carry it inside and the colony collapses, normally within a few hours. Most jobs take 15 to 30 minutes on site.
The nest itself does not usually need removing. Wasps never reuse an old nest, and once it is dead it is just paper. We only remove it where it is somewhere visible or awkward, like over a doorway.
What it costs
We charge a fixed price agreed before we travel, with no call-out fee and no extra for evenings or weekends. Standard domestic nests start at €80. Nests needing ladder access at height, or several nests on the same property, are quoted on the call.
Why shop-bought sprays often backfire
Aerosols reach the outer layer of a nest, not the brood chamber. They agitate the colony, provoke stinging, and scatter workers that then rebuild nearby. Blocking the entrance is worse again — wasps will chew a new way out, sometimes into the room below.

Stopping it happening again
After treatment we look for the gaps that let the queen in — lifted slates, open soffit joints, airbricks without mesh, gaps at the fascia. Sealing those in autumn is the single most effective thing you can do before next spring.
